Are there any examples of a well-written request for access to Accelerate-level access to Access resources? Are there any links to resources that are helpful to learn more about writing a request for resources, beyond what is on the site?
Howdy there. I’m just starting to fill out an Accelerate request.
Allocations did major upgrades to their site since you posted, and now there is an Example Proposal.
The Preparing a Maximize Request page has the info to learn more about how to estimate resources, it is from XSEDE but it is the same deal.
I have written MPI code ‘for a living’ as they say, so justifying resources and scaling is second nature. But I think it is not easy and probably overwhelming for someone who never did that to jump right in. I think my first recommendation to a researcher is that they ask the service providers for guidance, rather than find how-to resources beyond the site. Then once the researcher knows what to look at for their particular application, the XSEDE webinars on preparing the proposal and code scaling are super. Also, for some applications, perf/scaling tests are not really applicable…again, the specific service provider could give the best advice on how to proceed.
