We are seeking a Scientific Software Specialist to join our Research Facilitation team. As a Scientific Software Specialist at CCAST, you will be responsible for deploying open-source and commercial scientific software applications on our High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters. This includes building applications from source code, automating builds for complex software, and documenting build processes for others to reproduce. You will also help end users troubleshoot issues with software packages installed on the systems. You are expected to be comfortable with the Linux command line and one or more programming languages. Some research experience, in any field, is a plus.
NDSU’s Center for Computationally Assisted Science and Technology (CCAST) provides advanced computing infrastructure for research and education at NDSU and beyond. We maintain the largest academic supercomputing facility in the state of North Dakota, with more than 12,000 CPU cores, 70 GPUs, and 10 petabytes of research data storage capacity, and provide rigorous training and internship programs in advanced research computing. Advertised Salary: $70,000+ commensurate with experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- 2+ years’ experience working in a Linux command line environment.
- Proficiency programming in one or more languages (e.g. Python, Perl, R, C/C++, etc.).
- Experience building and compiling software from source code.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with fundamentals of web development at a basic level (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript).
- Experience using HPC package managers, such as EasyBuild and Spack.
- Experience deploying AI and machine learning workflows to run on GPUs.
- Experience with software version control using git.
- Research experience in any scientific discipline.
- Ability to write technical documentation for internal and external audiences.
